This is a story about a house that love built and the rescue effort through which it began. More importantly, it is a story of 16 homeless cats and their trials and triumphs in the pursuit of life, love and home. Though they shared the same ultimate fate, their stories couldn't be more different.
Begun in the fall of 2005 with a dream, a drill, and a mighty determination, what would develop in the months ahead was both inspired and inspiring. With never a cat as a pet and no building credits to my name, this is the story of my quest to make a difference in the lives of 16 cats and give back to them as abundantly as they had given.
With the tireless help of my beloved fiance, BIll, the encouragement of my children, and the inspiration of my father who died just before the beginning of this project, my dream was finally realized in the spring of 2006 and at last I had given back the only thing my cats lacked . . . the freedom of being outdoors.
My eternal gratitude to my husband, Bill. For all you are and all you do, I love you. Sally
And thank you, Mom and Daddy, for your love, example and inspiration. Daddy, I wish you had lived to see how much those years of watching you build cages for your pigeons would help me to accomplish this goal. I miss you so much . . . Mom, though my love for cats didn't come from you, it was you who first taught me how to love and I couldn't love you more. Sally.
Deep love and thanks to my children for your patience and encouragement during this "never ending" project! Mom
Lukey came to Sally's Cat House when his owners, having tossed him outside as a very small kitten, moved away and left him to die in their back yard. Despite being extremely feral and afraid of people, within six months and hundreds of choruses of You Are My Sunshine later, his favorite thing is to be in our arms and nuzzle us with his beautiful ebony face. Lukey is a story in courage all his own and thankfully, at least for the time being, his condition is stable and he's a very happy boy!
Linus
March 2008
Linus came to Sally's Cat House as a young veteran of the streets, with a mouth full of broken teeth and the feline leukemia virus. Despite also being diagnosed with lymphosarcoma back in July of 2008, Linus is still responding beautifully to intravenous ascorbic acid treatments to kill his cancer and some nine monhs later his symptoms are still in remission. In January he lost his foster home and family but he had no trouble re-adapting to Sally's Cat House or bonding with his new BFF Lukey!!!
Gracie
January 2009
Gracie was rescued from a Winchester horse farm neglected, pregnant, starving, and sick with an upper respiratory infection and FeLV. She made her way into the car of a visiting stranger one fateful day as if she knew it was her only chance for survival, and this kindhearted stranger, Brianne, took her immediately for medical treatment. After a two-month hospitalization, Gracie is now living with Linus and Lukey and teaching these boys who's boss!
TOUR STARTS HERE
To my earliest visitors to Sally's Cat House:
Unfortunately I did a stupid thing when working on my Web site and accidentally deleted my original Hit Counter and hundreds of Guest Book entries. I'm sick about it and sad to have lost all of your kind words.
Thank you to the 18,000+ cat lovers who have visited my site and left me the most special messages imaginable. I appreciate each and every one of you.
Sally

UPDATE: A big "thank you" to those who contributed so generously to the garage hospice fund for our FeLV cats. Lukey, Linus and Gracie spent a warmer winter because of your kindness and I am so grateful.
Each of them continues to do well and Linus is going on one year now with his lymphosarcoma with only intravenous vitamin C treatments sustaining him. He is truly my miracle boy.
If you have questions about his protocol for your own furbabies, I'm always happy to answer questions. Just use my contact link at the end of the site. Sally
OUR NEWCOMERS IN 2007, 2008 & 2009
Update June 11, 2009: Sally's Cat House urgently needs your help. We are preparing to pull four small kittens that were scheduled to die today at a Kentucky shelter. As you can see, we are quite full and we need to rehome these new cats coming in as soon as they are old enough and up-to-date on vet care, shots and altering.
If you would like to adopt or foster one of these beautiful babies from Sally's Cat House, please contact Sally as soon as possible toll free at 1-877-753-9355. We will gladly work with you to arrange transport from Kentucky if you are not in the state. An adoption application with vet references and a No-Declaw Agreement are required.
Thanks for visiting and these precious babies are waiting to hear from you!
Three lucky little kitties ready for a home soon (one's hiding). Black cats have the best personalities of all!!!!!
And beautiful little Violet . . . Could YOU have resisted this face???
